Gateway Florist originally located in Waldorf Md has relocated to LaPlata Md. Owners Kent and Tina Cooksey relocated the shop to it's 130 acre family farm in order to expand it's business and services. Gateway Florist has offered regular delivery of all occasion arrangements, weddings, sympathy, get well etc for over 18years and will continue to offer that same quality products and services. However, we have been actively working to expand into a small working farm as well. Our hope is to offer locally (seasonal ) grown wildflowers, sunflowers and some produce. As this portion of our business is just beginning only time will tell how this first year will go. Special notices will be posted on this site when different local items become available. In addition to these new services we also offer a convienent cash a nd carry cooler inside Civista hospital's gift shop located on Garrett Ave in LaPlata Md.

Local delivery areas include all of La Plata, Md and the surrounding Charles County area. We also deliver to Mechanicsville, Md and some other St Mary's County. areas.

We do go outside of our delivery area for special events such as weddings and large party work.

We offer a wide variety of fresh floral arrangements for pick up in Civista Medical Centers Gift Shop. The Gift Shop is located in the lobby of the new entrance off Garrett Ave in La Plata, Md.

To help guarantee delivery for holidays please place orders early at least 2 days prior to any major holiday ie: Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentines, Easter and Mothers Day.

We do have extended store hours during the holiday season they will be available by calling the store one week prior to the holiday.

Our shop is closed on the following Holidays: New Years Day, Easter, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and Dec 26th.

Any other unscheduled closings will be noted on the web site and phone at least 2 weeks prior to closing.

Gateway Florist provides a full variety of fresh flowers for all occasions and all design styles. Our fruit and gift baskets are outstanding and can be tailored to your specific needs. We offer a large variety of baskets such as fruit and gourmet, junk food, diebetic snack baskets, bath baskets, chocolate candy and cookie baskets, coffee and tea baskets, etc. If you have an idea we can probley make it into a basket.

We can combine any of our gift baskets with plants or flowers for that extra special gift. We have a full line of plush, balloons, candles and greeting cards.

Gateway Florist offers custom wedding design services and large party designs. Consultation appointments are required and are no charge.

We take great care with all our orders and sympathy arrangements are no exception. We can do a wide variety of pieces from standard funeral baskets to large showy standing sprays. We can even do some custom pieces.

A delivery fee of $10.95 will be added to each order for each address.   We do try to accommodate time deliveries when possible,  if a special request is made and specified times are required we will charge a higher delivery fee.   No time deliveries will be promised on any holiday... we do make note of business and schools. 

Orders for the same day are guaranteed if placed by 2pm the same day with the exception of holidays.  If it is late in the day and you would like a delivery within our local area, give us a call we will try to accomodate you (but no promises).  Orders for Civista Medical Center can be placed up until 3pm for the same day delivery.

Procedures for delivery:

Because our area is growing and many of the street addresses are not on our maps.. we may need to call the recipients to get directions.  Also if the area of the delivery is rural we may call recipients to see if someone is home to receive flowers to avoid wasted trips.  Please make sure you include phone numbers to the recipients on your orders.

When making a delivery to a home if no one is home

•  we will try leaving the arrangement with a neighbor-- we tag the door to notify
•  we will leave the arrangement weather permitting in a safe place at the address
• we will tag the door for the recipient to contact us and a time will be set up for redelivery.

Occasionally, substitutions may be necessary to create your bouquet due to the availability of certain flowers in various parts of the country. Care is taken to maintain the style, theme and color scheme of the arrangement, using flowers of equal value. Additionally, the substitution of certain keepsake items may be necessary due to increased demand, especially during major holidays. In single-flower arrangements, such as an all rose bouquet, or orchids, we will make every attempt to match the flower type, but may substitute with another color.
